SNDB Heritage
In 1888 the hill station saw the genesis of a bank; the first of its kind within the burgeoning tea plantations of the then Ceylon. Aptly named SNDB, this bank became the lifeline to thousands of plantation workers.
SNDB explored and widened new avenues of opportunity for its customers in 1971. The opening of its 1st branches were at Pussellawa, Gampola and Maskeliya. SNDB pioneered the concept of ‘Mobile Banking’ – which continues to be a boon to people particularly in rural areas.
The Bank sponsored the First ever official Test Match played by the National side against England.
Digital Genesis & Market Leadership: Launched the first comprehensive Internet Banking portal in Sri Lanka and achieved a major milestone of 100 Customer Centres island-wide. SNDB successfully listed on the Colombo Stock Exchange, becoming a powerhouse of public capital.
The Mobile Revolution & ESG Commitment: Unveiled the SNDB Digital App, setting the gold standard for mobile finance. Initiated the Branch Solarization Project in 2016 and expanded the physical footprint to 200+ branches and 500+ ATMs.
The AI Era & Sustainable Future: Transforming into a high-velocity digital entity with AI-driven analytics and the 2024 launch of the Sarusara Sustainable Financing engine. With over 820 ATMs and a fully automated matrix, SNDB is poised to lead for the next century.

Since 2018, SNDB has restored 2.5 acres in the Kanneliya Forest, planting over 12,000 native species. Restoring degraded fern land to boost biodiversity and soil health.

Integrating 'Design for Environment' principles to reduce paper use through Green Pins and slip-less ATM transactions.
Branch Solarization
Launched in 2016. By 2024, solar panels installed at 94 branches, significantly decreasing non-renewable energy reliance.
